SAA-uk Dance Academy Assistant (Freelance)
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a freelance Dance Academy Assistant in Leeds/Wakefield. This role supports Indian Classical Dance classes and includes classroom setup, student supervision, administrative tasks, and communication. Position is hybrid, 10 hours per week, £15/hour, freelance contract.
Role Overview
The Dance Academy Assistant will provide freelance support to ensure the smooth and safe delivery of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Dance Academy activities. The Contractor will support in-studio operations, participant coordination, administrative tasks, and communications, working collaboratively with the Dance Development Officer and wider programme team.
Key Responsibilities
- Classroom Setup & Logistics: Prepare studios, conduct Health & Safety checks, set up equipment, ensure cleanliness and safety.
- Registration & Student Support: Welcome parents and students, manage registration, monitor communal areas, log incidents, record attendance.
- Operational & Administrative Support: Assist tutors with video capture, support enrolment and data administration, handle correspondence, maintain records, support inventory.
- Communication, Reporting & Compliance: Weekly check-in with Dance Development Officer, log hours, capture marketing content, report safeguarding issues, complete mandatory training.
- Additional Responsibilities: Maintain confidentiality, uphold professional boundaries, adhere to policies, support events and holiday activities.
Contract Details
Engagement: Freelance/Self-employed contractor. Tax & Insurance: Responsible for own tax, NI, and relevant insurances including Public Liability. Not entitled to employee benefits.
Working Pattern
- Wednesday: Wakefield – 2 hours (venue and evening time TBC)
- Thursday: Kathak dance classes at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, 98 Chapeltown Road, Leeds, LS7 4BH, 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm (3 hours)
- Friday: Bharatanatyam and Odissi dance classes at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds, 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm (2.5 hours)
- Administrative Hours: 2.5 hours per week, flexible by agreement with Dance Development Officer.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
- Legal right to work in the UK
- Access to a car and valid UK driving licence
- Interest in or basic knowledge of Indian Classical Dance
- Clear, warm, professional communication skills
- Awareness of South Asian cultural practices
- Experience working with children or young people
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- IT proficiency (Microsoft Office, OneDrive, Zoom, Google Classroom/Meet)
- Understanding of safeguarding and data protection
- Reliable, punctual, able to commit to evening and administrative work
- Physical capability for light manual handling
Desirable Criteria:
- Ability to speak Hindi or South Asian languages
- Experience in administrative, coordination, or assistant role (arts, education, charity)
- Experience supporting young people in educational/creative/community settings
- Interest in music, dance, performing arts (South Asian traditions)
- Experience with data tracking tools or CRM systems
- Previous training in safeguarding, data protection, or manual handling
