The Role
The role will involve working closely with partners and other colleagues across the firm on high value, complex international arbitration cases – principally focused on infrastructure and major project disputes in the construction sector.
Responsibilities
- Working closely with team members to formulate case theory and strategy.
- Assuming a key role in drafting written submissions, including managing more junior members.
- Managing research and document review processes.
- Assisting in the preparation of witness and expert evidence.
- Liaising directly with clients, witnesses, experts, tribunals, and opposing counsel.
- Working closely with partners on business development initiatives, including law-review publications, client briefings, and conference presentations.
Candidate Profile
Competitive candidates will possess:
- Trained and qualified in England & Wales.
- At least three years’ experience in high value, complex international investment and/or commercial arbitration.
- Excellent academic background.
- Construction experience (technical, delay, quantum-related issues; oil & gas, mining, infrastructure, engineering sectors) is an advantage.
- Additional languages are a plus.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to write clearly, economically, and persuasively.
- Ability to identify relevant research lines and implement rapidly.
- Ability to analyse complex legal and factual problems.
- Strong understanding of contract and treaty arbitration law.
- Rigor, accuracy, and structured writing.
- Ability to present a client’s case orally with confidence and credibility.
- Professional work management using commercially sound practices.
- Effective communication at all levels.
