Assistant Nursery Deputy — Baby Unit Lead

About the Role

Abacus Day Nursery, part of the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Group, is looking for a compassionate, bold, and reflective leader to join our close-knit management team as Assistant Nursery Deputy and Baby Unit Lead. You will sit within a supportive four-person leadership team alongside the Nursery Manager, Deputy, and third-in-charge, reporting to the Nursery Manager. You'll play a key role in the smooth running of the setting, stepping up to cover managerial responsibilities when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead either our big nest or little nest Baby Unit, alongside another baby room lead, with warmth and expertise
  • Support and inspire practitioners day to day
  • Oversee planning, observation and assessment
  • Manage safeguarding and health & safety
  • Build strong partnerships with parents
  • Liaise with outside agencies and specialists
  • Conduct supervisions and appraisals

Requirements

  • Minimum Level 3 qualified in childcare
  • 3+ years post-qualifying experience in day care
  • Strong knowledge of EYFS and Development Matters
  • Experience in a senior or leadership position
  • Excellent communication with children and families
  • Calm, organised, and proactive approach
  • Committed to reflective, inclusive practice
