Traffic Management Operative

Location: Stoke, West Midlands, England
Salary: £14.40 - 16.00 per hour

Duties

  • Install, maintain, and remove temporary traffic management layouts on high-speed road networks (including cones, signs, barriers, and closures)
  • Work safely on the M1, M2, and M5 motorway corridors and main streets in live traffic environments
  • Carry out traffic management tasks in accordance with Chapter 8 and National Highways standards
  • Conduct daily vehicle, equipment, and site safety checks
  • Assist with lane closures, road closures, contraflow systems, and emergency traffic management
  • Follow set traffic management drawings and instructions from supervisors
  • Respond to emergency call-outs and incidents when required
  • Maintain clear communication with team members, supervisors, and control rooms
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations at all times
  • Complete job paperwork, risk assessments, and reports accurately

Essential Requirements

  • LANTRA / NHSS Traffic Management qualification (e.g. TTMBC, TM Operative, or equivalent)
  • Full UK driving licence (preferably with no more than 6 points)
  • Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Strong awareness of health & safety procedures
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Good communication skills

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience working on live motorways or dual carriageways
  • IPV (Impact Protection Vehicle) driving qualification
  • Experience working on National Highways contracts
  • First Aid certification
