About the Company

Quantock Outdoor Education is an alternative education provision delivering high quality learning and outdoor experiences for children and young people with additional learning needs and/or emotional and behavioural difficulties. We’re looking for an experienced Smallholding Lead to take charge of the day‑to‑day running of our beautiful site. You will have experience with animals, tractors, and machinery is essential to this role. Our Small Holding is a safe haven for young people, a place where they can create, build, take ownership, and discover what they’re capable of.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Animal Care and Welfare: Daily care, feeding, health checks, breeding support, vaccination, record keeping.
  • Operations and Site Maintenance: Manage fields, fencing, buildings, tools, machinery, tractor operation.
  • Site Development: Plan improvements, infrastructure upgrades, long-term planning.
  • Health, Safety, and Compliance: Risk assessments, safe systems, regulatory compliance.
  • Learning Spaces: Upkeep of classrooms and shared areas.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: Supervise staff, volunteers, and students.

Requirements

Essential: Minimum 2 years' experience with animals, knowledge of welfare legislation, physically fit, competent tractor driver, farm machinery experience, health & safety understanding, good organisational skills.

Desirable: Qualifications in agriculture/animal care, First Aid, experience in educational settings, fencing/land management skills.
