Job Description

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] has an exciting opportunity to join the Student Support and Foundation Learning Department as a Pastoral Support Officer (Care Experienced) on a permanent, full-time basis. The role involves providing dedicated support to care-experienced young people, working under the Head of Inclusion Preventative Education and Cohesion, and guidance of the Designated Teachers. The focus is on removing barriers to learning and promoting educational development. You will respond swiftly to 'at risk' indicators by setting clear goals in collaboration with students and relevant agencies, and work closely with internal college teams and external agencies.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics or equivalent
  • Qualified to at least level 3 in Education, Social Care, Mentoring, Youth Work, Counselling or Advice Guidance
  • Effective use of ICT systems and programs: ProMonitor, EBS Reports, Microsoft Office
  • Supporting learners in an educational setting (preferably FE/HE)
  • Working with 16+ students (including adults)
  • Experience providing support for academic and personal, social and health development
  • Experience of motivating and affective change (e.g. targeted and universal pastoral interventions or attendance improvements)
  • Effective mentoring / coaching skills
  • Effective time-management
  • Prioritising workload and problem solving
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Flexibility of approach
  • Working in a team
  • Attending meetings and contributing to development of working practices
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Promotion of a positive culture
