Senior Medical Writer

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Senior Medical Writer for hybrid roles in Edinburgh, London, and Manchester. This position is ideal for an experienced writer passionate about scientific developments and AI.

Role Purpose

Our SMWs are responsible for driving day-to-day project delivery (with support from others) within an account in order to create outstanding medical content across a variety of therapy areas. This position is ideal for an experienced writer who has a passion for scientific and medical developments, a keen interest in AI, and who enjoys tackling new problems, interacting with clients, and mentoring internal team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scientific knowledge: Confidently steps into new therapeutic areas; starting to lead discussions with clients and external experts.
  • Strategic knowledge: Helps to lead meetings and strategic discussions with clients.
  • AI: Proactively utilizes a broad range of AI solutions; evaluates and implements AI-driven solutions; provides guidance and training.
  • Project ownership: Leads content delivery for complex projects; delegates as needed.
  • Project development: Interrogates briefs; applies critical thinking; proactive problem-solving.
  • Editorial: Develops compelling narratives; structures novel projects.
  • Quality control: Takes responsibility for overall quality; reviews junior work.
  • On site: Leads elements of the on-site programme across events.
  • Client liaison: Leads scientific discussions with clients and external experts.
  • Growth and new business: Supports new business development.
  • Project management: Provides timely communication on hours and progress.
  • Teamwork: Trains/mentors junior writers.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong scientific background with a degree in a scientific or medical discipline (post-graduate preferred).
  • Previous experience of medical writing at MW level or above.
  • Passion for healthcare, science, medicine, and AI technologies.
  • Personable, articulate, capable of nurturing relationships; experience mentoring MWs and interacting with clients.
