Group Leaders (x2) - Cardiff University

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] ([Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]) is seeking two Group Leaders (Principal Investigators) to drive visionary research in neuroscience relevant to dementia and neurodegeneration, based at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]. The role involves leading an internationally competitive research programme, securing funding, and contributing to a collaborative scientific community.

About the Role

As a [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Group Leader, you will lead an internationally competitive research programme. All areas of neuroscience considered, especially experimental approaches using mouse genetics, organoids, human-to-mouse chimeric models or human tissue. We welcome applications focusing on molecular, cellular or systems neuroscience, including glial biology, neural circuits and neuron-glia interactions. You will contribute to an integrated, collaborative, interdisciplinary, and open science environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven ability to develop and lead a programme of internationally competitive molecular, cellular or systems neuroscience research
  • Established record of high-quality impactful research publications
  • Ability to shape, develop, inspire and lead a research group
  • Commitment to involvement of people with neurodegenerative conditions
  • Excellent communication, networking, collaboration and project management skills
  • Proven ability to attract research funding
  • Commitment to nurture and support next generation researchers
  • Commitment to fostering a positive research culture promoting diversity, inclusion and open science
  • Postgraduate research degree (PhD/MD) with relevant postdoctoral experience

Desirable

  • Outstanding track record in experimental studies using mice, organoids, chimeric models or human tissues
  • Expertise in electrophysiological, imaging, transcriptomic or proteomic methods
  • Commitment to translate research into new tests or treatments
  • Teaching experience at high level
