About the Role

We are looking for a post-doctoral research associate to join the Dr Gaynor Smith Lab in the School of Medicine and [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] at Cardiff University. You will conduct research on an Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK)-funded project to assess the contribution of Late Onset Alzheimer’s disease (LOAD) risk genes in both Drosophila and human iPSC-derived neurons. Use state of the art in vitro and in vivo model systems to explore role of LOAD risk genes in mitochondria dysfunction, metabolism and pathology in ageing neurons.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on an ARUK-funded project assessing LOAD risk genes in Drosophila and iPSC-derived neurons.
  • Use in vitro and in vivo model systems to study mitochondria dysfunction, metabolism, and pathology in ageing neurons.
  • Develop research skills, collaborate with interdisciplinary team, and contribute to data analysis, manuscript preparation, and presentations.

Requirements

  • Enthusiastic and ambitious PDRA candidate with drive to work in neuroscience, dementia, and neurodegeneration research.
  • Excited to join a collaborative project and contribute to wider translational research team objectives.
  • Research experience in Drosophila genetics and/or iPSC neuron culture, confocal microscopy, post-mortem human tissue, and molecular biology/biochemistry with interest in Alzheimer’s disease, neurodegenerative disease, or cellular metabolism.
