Job Description

We're representing a leading Tier 1 civil engineering contractor with a strong pipeline of high-profile work across the UK. This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering complex, large-scale projects that shape the future of national infrastructure.

The Role

As Section Engineer, you'll be responsible for managing a defined section of works on a major heavy civils scheme. You'll coordinate engineering activities, ensure technical compliance, and support delivery teams to achieve programme, quality, and safety targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day engineering activities within your section
  • Ensure works are delivered in line with design specifications and project requirements
  • Manage subcontractors and site teams to maintain productivity and standards
  • Review and approve RAMS, ITPs, and technical documentation
  • Provide setting out and surveying support where required
  • Monitor progress against programme and report on key milestones
  • Work closely with the Senior Engineer and Project Manager to resolve technical issues

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Section Engineer (or strong Sub Agent/Engineer ready to step up) within heavy civils
  • Background in major infrastructure projects (highways, rail, utilities, marine, or structures)
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, QA processes, and site delivery
  • Competence in setting out and use of surveying equipment
  • Ability to manage teams and communicate effectively across all levels
  • Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree)
