About the Role

As an English Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality lessons in English Language and English Literature to students across KS3 & KS4. You will foster a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking, while preparing students for GCSE and A-Level examinations. You will also play an important role in the wider school community, supporting literacy initiatives, extracurricular activities, and departmental projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English lessons tailored to students’ needs
  • Assess and track student progress, providing feedback to support improvement
  • Teach GCSE English Language and Literature where applicable
  • Develop students’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills
  • Promote a love of literature and effective communication
  • Support extracurricular activities such as debating, creative writing, or school productions
  • Contribute to departmental development and curriculum planning
  • Maintain excellent classroom management and a positive learning environment

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Strong subject knowledge in English Language and Literature
  • Experience teaching GCSE and/or A-Level English preferred
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Passionate about developing students’ literacy and critical thinking skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • A minimum of 6 months experience planning, preparing and teaching the UK English curriculum
