Location: 4 Bull Plain, Hertford
Salary: £22,640 per annum, £28,300 per annum full-time equivalent
Hours: Part-time, 30 hours/4 days per week (includes occasional Saturdays and Sundays)
Reporting to: Area Manager
Direct reports: Assistant Manager, Volunteers
Job Purpose
To contribute to income generation for [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] by managing a retail shop to the highest standards of good practice, compliance with policies and procedures and maximisation of income, profit, and promotion of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] to the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] retail shop, managing an Assistant Manager and Volunteers, including recruitment and retention of a motivated team of volunteers; and annual performance development review for the Assistant Manager.
- Ensure income and profit maximisation through maximising donations, preparation of items for sale, sales and disposals of un-saleable items to trade merchants.
- Achieve sales and profit targets to increase the number of special days, treats or breaks for seriously ill young adults.
- Achieve optimum price for all donated stock.
- Maximise sign-ups for retail Gift Aid and maintain full records for donations under this scheme.
- Control shop expenditure in line with budget, applying [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] policies for purchasing.
- Manage customer and donor engagement to ensure the best possible relationship with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].
- Manage physical appearance of the shop, maintaining high standards of merchandising and visual layout, controlling stock density and rotation systems, ensuring it is inviting and safe.
- Contribute to retail development through innovation, ideas, and creativity, feeding back team ideas to the Area Manager.
- Demonstrate understanding of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s purpose and activities, striving to improve brand awareness and communicate key messages.
- Complete all shop administration including cash handling and banking functions accurately and to deadline.
- Plan and organise daily workload for team, encouraging effective communication, setting objectives, and fostering positive team spirit.
- Ensure trading standard regulations are adhered to.

- Undertake other duties commensurate with the post as required.
Travel & Unsocial Hours
Travel requirements: Attend Shop Managers’ meetings and training sessions as required.
Unsocial hours requirement: Work on Saturdays (and by prior agreement Sundays) as required within normal rota’d duties.
