Job Description

The mortgage market, in common with other markets, is complex and evolving. The challenge for the Director, Mortgages is therefore to agree common priorities and aims, against many competing demands; and develop strategies that implement outcomes to deliver positive, identifiable and significant impact for the market, members and consumers.

Several issues facing the mortgages industry affect different policy areas in the business including but not limited to commercial finance (covering SME and invoice finance policy), economic crime and personal banking. The successful candidate will work effectively across the various business areas in [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] (including the Prudential, Regulatory Reporting and Taxation team on prudential issues), to develop comprehensive solutions that deliver good outcomes across the various disciplines that they touch.

Whilst the primary focus of this role is the mortgage market the appointed individual will also be a member of the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] senior leadership team. As such they must be able to represent [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] broadly and engage members from the perspective of - what can [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] as a whole do for members?

We deliver these objectives on behalf of members and with their support through policy formulation and advocacy at the most senior levels of government and the regulatory community. We also support members with a range of training and communications, including national media. Our work in this area is acknowledged as best-in-class, and we are looking to build on this strong policy franchise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and actively manage a business plan and priority policy areas for the Mortgages Products and Services Board, taking account of all members’ views
  • Actively promote a programme of relationship management with members and associate members, to ensure delivery of member value across the breadth of stream members.
  • Ensure the team works collaboratively to deliver persuasive, evidence-based advocacy on priority policy, legal and regulatory issues, that reflect the breadth of members’ interests, shaping a business plan covering: Consumer Credit legislation and Regulation, Financial Difficulty, Credit Data
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key legislators, regulators and supervisors and build relationships with key non-financial regulators and supervisors, as required.
  • Support other relevant policy teams as a source of subject matter expertise to deliver their objectives as required.
  • Collaborate across the business and specifically with the membership, events and training team to develop a programme of events, training and/ or webinars, leveraging Associate Membership.
  • Support actively and contribute to the External Relations and Media teams’ communication strategy through journalist briefings and other required materials, leveraging opportunities to influence media debate about financial services and providing regular blogs.
