This is an exciting senior role, working with the Director of Public Affairs to lead [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s Public Affairs team at a pivotal moment for the financial services sector, as government and parliament shape the future framework for growth and competitiveness.
As Head of Public Affairs, you will be at the centre of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s advocacy – driving our political and parliamentary engagement, shaping the debate on key legislation, and ensuring the voice of the banking and finance industry is heard where it matters most.
Sitting within Corporate Affairs, you will work across the organisation and with senior industry leaders to deliver impact on the issues that matter to members and society.
You will oversee the day-to-day activity of a high-performing team – with two direct reports – leading engagement with ministers, parliamentarians, advisers and influential stakeholders. You will also play a key role in supporting the development of your colleagues, fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture that empowers them to succeed.
This position reports directly to the Director of Public Affairs and offers the opportunity to work closely with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s Chief Executive and senior leadership, as well as the External Affairs Committee of member firms. It is a highly visible role, with the scope to make a real impact on national policy debates while developing your leadership profile and broadening your influence.
We are looking for an individual with strong political acumen, proven experience of delivering advocacy strategies, and the confidence to operate at senior levels across Westminster and Whitehall. Key Responsibilities
- Shape strategy: Work with the Director of Public Affairs to design and deliver [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s advocacy strategy, political opposition strategy and political engagement plans.
- Develop advocacy positions: Support the development of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s advocacy positions, working with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] policy teams.
- Lead engagement: Oversee parliamentary and government engagement, ensuring [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] influences key legislation, select committee work and wider political debates.
- Drive impact: Deliver the External Affairs Committee programme, working with senior member representatives to ensure their perspectives shape our advocacy.
- Support leadership: Prepare and brief the Chief Executive, Chair and senior colleagues ahead of political engagements, including parliamentary committee appearances.
- Provide insight: Advise colleagues and members on political developments, opportunities and risks, helping to shape messages and engagement approaches.
