Location: Bedford | Salary: £26,378 - £26,478 per year | Type: Full-time, Permanent

Job Description

Our Bedford-based client is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Hygiene Operative to join their team. This is a great opportunity for someone with a food manufacturing background to secure a long-term position. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across mill equipment and facilities, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and food safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out cleaning and hygiene duties in line with schedules and procedures.
  • Operating safely at all times to avoid risk of injury to yourself or others.
  • Safely isolating and locking off equipment when required.
  • Dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling equipment as instructed.
  • Identifying and reporting any safety, quality, hygiene, or engineering issues.
  • Reporting pest activity, contamination risks, or foreign body hazards.
  • Ensuring all cleaning is completed within allocated timeframes and to required standards.
  • Handling chemicals safely and in accordance with COSHH guidelines.
  • Maintaining clean and organised working areas in line with good manufacturing practices.
  • Using and returning equipment, utensils, and records appropriately.
  • Wearing correct PPE at all times while carrying out duties.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within food manufacturing.
  • Level 2 Food Safety / HACCP certification.
  • COSHH training.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and well organised.
  • Good understanding of safe chemical handling and hazard symbols.
