Job Details

We're looking for a commercially astute Project Buyer to play a key role in delivering complex projects on time, on budget, and right first time. You'll sit at the heart of the project team, owning procurement strategy, supplier performance, and contract delivery across the full lifecycle.

Please note: this role requires candidates to hold, or be eligible to obtain, security clearance.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead procurement activity across designated projects, aligning cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Partner with Engineering and Project teams to agree specifications, manage long-lead items, and reduce supply risk.
  • Manage supplier and subcontractor contracts end to end, including expediting, variation control, and performance reviews.
  • Identify and deliver cost-saving and value-adding initiatives without compromising quality or safety.
  • Pro-actively assess and mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Support Make vs Buy analysis and contribute to tender activity and early supplier engagement.
  • Build strong, ethical supplier relationships that drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear, data-led reporting to Project and Supply Chain leadership.

What you'll bring

  • Experience in a purchasing or project procurement role, ideally in a project-based environment.
  • Experience of high value, low volume complex engineering environments.
  • Strong understanding of project life-cycles, contract management, and supplier performance.
  • Proven negotiation skills and experience delivering commercial value.
  • Familiarity with complex government or defence procurement contracts.
  • Knowledge of materials and supply chains within Energy or Construction environments (ideal, not essential).
  • Degree qualified and working towards MCIPS, or MCIPS qualified.
  • Confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills.
  • IT-literate, with solid Excel and Word capability.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and an appreciation of technical or metallurgical concepts would be advantageous.
  • Eligible for, or currently holding, relevant security clearance.

What sets you apart

  • Collaborative, solutions-focused mindset.
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Adaptable, curious, and motivated to continuously improve how procurement delivers value.
