Job Details
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking an experienced and driven Environmental Manager to join our newly established Power & Transmission team, supporting a growing portfolio of projects across the UK.
Required
- Skillscard – CSCS Card (relevant type) All roles are expected to have the relevant competency skills cards where site–based work is required.
- Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent competence and experience in Environmental Science or Environmental Management or other applicable disciplines.
- Knowledge of UK environment management regulatory requirements
- Full UK driver's licence
- Geographically mobile and able to deploy at projects throughout the UK and Ireland for extended periods
- Good written English, presentation and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment with flexible and proactive approach to work.
- Proven Environmental Management experience, preferably in a main contractor context.
- Full membership of relevant professional institution. Either Chartered or able to demonstrate progress towards chartership.
- Significant experience in any of the following: Nuclear new build sector, Energy sector, Water sector, Linear infrastructure, Tunnelling
As the Environmental Manager, you will provide expert guidance to project teams, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and industry best practices. Working across multiple sites, you will play a key role in managing environmental risks, promoting innovation, and driving continuous improvement in environmental performance.

This is a UK wide position with our Power head office being based in Stafford but projects are to be located up and down the country so openness to travel is essential
Leadership
- Line manage, mentor and lead the team of Environmental Advisors, Senior Environmental Advisors and Environmental Technicians on a large infrastructure project in the UK. Report to the Subdivision Head of Environment and Sustainability.
ISO 14001 compliant Environmental Management System
- Be responsible for the establishment, maintenance and dissemination of the ISO 14001 accredited Environmental Management System (EMS) on a large project.
- Lead the project Environmental Management team to work with the wider project teams (e.g. procurement, design, and site teams) to ensure that the delivery of the project is in accordance with the EMS.
- Develop thorough understanding of the impact assessments undertaken prior to the project and ensure that these are understood within the Environmental Management team. Maintain the Impacts and Aspects Register and legal register accordingly.
- Maintain the EMS management plans (including the Construction Environmental Management Plan) responding to changes in project scope and environmental understanding. Communicate the requirements of the management plans at senior project level. Support the Environmental Management team to resolve persistent or significant non–compliances or escalate to the project directorate as appropriate.
Audits and Inspections
- Write the inspection and audit programme and support the Environmental Advisors undertaking inspections and detailed audits (internal and external).
Monitoring
- Oversee the delivery of the Environmental Monitoring Plan, ensuring appropriate quality control. Advise Environmental Advisors and undertake detailed investigation of anomalous results.
Compliance
- Manage the production of project documentation and liaise with client and regulators to obtain all consents and permits required for the project to progress in accordance with the project plan. Advise the design team to ensure that the requirements of the consents and permits are incorporated into the site design.
- Respond to observations of non–compliances or potential non–compliances or matters which may result in non–compliance, escalating to the project directorate as necessary.
Competence and Training
- Design and lead the delivery of the environmental communications and training plan.
Incidents and Emergencies
- Ensure that the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan is followed by ensuring that it is communicated at supervisor/superintendent/senior level and site management level. Deliver the requirements for equipment and procedures in accordance with the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan.
- Coordinate the response to significant environmental incidents and support response to other incidents as required.
- Be responsible for the production of RAMS for activities undertaken by the Environmental Team and ensure that RAMS for other activities are reviewed. Advise the design and construction teams to promote best practice and reduce the risk of environmental incidents, through the HAZID and RAMS review processes.
Sustainability
- Support the work of the subdivision Sustainability Team by supporting the collection of data from project teams and promoting improvements to ways of working.
External Interfaces
- Liaise with the client and subcontractors at senior level and ensure that liaison between the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] environment teams and client/subcontractors teams at site level are professional, transparent and constructive. Ensure the delivery of routine environmental performance reports. Ensure that observations made during audits and inspections are responded to appropriately.
- Lead liaison with regulators including the Local Planning Authorities, National Parks Authorities, the Environment Agency/SEPA etc. for the project to ensure compliance with legislation and local policy.
Team
- Take responsibility for own health and safety and that of the rest of the Environmental Management team, the wider [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] project team and any other site workers and visitors.
- Coordinate the work of any project Environmental Technicians.
- Support the technical development of junior team members through structured training sessions and mentoring, in particular mentoring Environmental Advisors.
- Deputise for the subdivision Head of Environment and Sustainability as required.
Technical
- Maintain a high level of knowledge and competency in relations to Environmental Management and responsibilities including appropriate qualifications and professional membership and CPD.
- Work to develop technical leadership in specialist area(s) to the support the work of the Environmental team as required.
Other Projects
- Provide support to other [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] projects including assurance audits, and significant incident investigation as required.
