Key Responsibilities
- Lead and direct a team of Ecologists to undertake ecological field surveys including protected species surveys, Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, ecological impact assessments.
- Oversee ecological advice to senior leaders, project management, Works Delivery and Maintenance teams.
- Provide regular project updates and progress reports.
- Write clear surveys, map target notes, and compile vegetation management scoping documents.
- Liaise with teams on mitigation strategies to comply with legislation.
- Direct data analysis from survey results.
- Liaise with statutory bodies and local authorities on ecological compliance.
- Support production of periodic business reporting.
- Accountable for environmental and ecological appraisal reports.
Essential Requirements
- Full/associate membership of CIEEM
- Experience delivering projects to timescales and budgets
- Experience managing teams
- Experience interpreting survey data and delivering reports
- Knowledge of rail maintenance delivery and protected species surveys
- Good interpersonal, influencing, communication, and organisation skills
- Full understanding of UK and European wildlife legislation
- Comprehensive field experience identifying ecological constraints
- Relevant higher degree in Ecology, Zoology, Biological Sciences, or Environmental Sciences
- In-depth experience of Ecologist practices within the railway environment
Desirable Skills
- Working knowledge of CDM Regulations
- Knowledge of operational railway environment
- Knowledge of ISO 14001
- Experience attending client meetings
- Full UK driving licence

- One or more protected species survey licences
