Chief of Staff to Helen Morgan MP (North Shropshire)

Salary: £34,000-£45,000 depending on experience

Contract: Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Job Details

Helen Morgan MP is seeking a Chief of Staff to support her in representing North Shropshire as effectively as possible. This highly rewarding role involves a combination of line management, strategic planning, communication and troubleshooting. The successful candidate will be an experienced manager with a strong knowledge of Parliamentary campaigning and a commitment to North Shropshire. Helen will consider the role being based in North Shropshire or London depending on the candidate.

Person Specification

  • A commitment to North Shropshire and a strong awareness of the issues facing the constituency
  • A good understanding of British politics and the campaign tools available to an MP
  • Experience in line management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A high level of organisation and the ability to balance multiple priorities at once
  • The ability to work at a fast pace under pressure
  • Empathy and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion

Responsibilities

  • Line managing Helen’s Parliamentary team
  • Planning and leading high impact campaigns
  • Overseeing diary management, casework and external communication
  • Signing off on relevant decisions delegated by the MP
  • Liaising with key stakeholders inside and outside of the constituency
  • Proactively identifying potential problems and solutions, and advising the MP as necessary
  • Carrying out research and ensuring the MP is always fully briefed
  • Managing the IPSA and House of Commons budgets and liaising closely with IPSA and other relevant bodies
