It works with government, industry, and communities to support policy development, investment, and the growth of Scotland’s clean energy economy. This role reports to the Board and has direct reports including Director of Public Affairs & Communications, Director of Energy Transition & Supply Chain, Director of Offshore, Director of Finance and Reporting, Strategic Advisor (Interim), and Executive Assistant.

About the Role

To provide strategic leadership and vision to advance the mission of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]. Key aspects include providing clear strategic direction, building trust and engagement, ensuring sustainable delivery, and maintaining [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’ position as a credible and influential voice in Scotland and at Westminster. This role requires a leader who combines external credibility with strong internal leadership, with emphasis on strategy, culture and organisational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Set and communicate clear organisational strategy, align priorities with resources, ensure sustainable and impactful delivery, work with Board to translate goals into plans.
  • Financial and Operational Oversight: Ensure effective governance and compliance, provide regular Board updates, ensure adherence to legal and ethical standards, ensure strong financial stewardship and risk management, act as responsible person for Health and Safety.
  • Culture, People and Engagement: Lead a new era with high trust and energy, support an environment where employees are heard and valued, take a people-first leadership approach.
  • Leadership and Team Effectiveness: Build and lead a high performing Senior Leadership Team, ensure clarity of roles, develop leadership capability, foster culture of ownership and accountability.
  • Communication and Transparency: Establish clear and consistent communication, ensure staff understand strategic priorities, create opportunities for engagement and feedback.
  • External Representation and Influence: Act as primary spokesperson and ambassador, maintain relationships with governments, industry stakeholders, and members, ensure [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] remains a respected voice.
  • Change and Transformation Leadership: Lead change in structured and inclusive way, balance pace with capacity, ensure changes are embedded.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership or CEO level role.
  • Demonstrable success in leading organisational or cultural transformation.
  • Experience of working with or reporting to a Board.
  • Experience of leading multi-functional teams through ambiguity and change.
  • Strong track record in financial management, including budget development and income generation.
  • Experience in risk management, compliance, and operational controls.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proven ability to build effective external partnerships.
  • Evidence of leading strategic change, growth, or transformation.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate vision into action.
  • Ability to prioritise and make difficult decisions.

Desirable:

  • Experience of organisational culture development around wellbeing, inclusivity, and engagement.
  • Background in membership organisations, policy, public affairs or similar sector experience.
