Role Overview
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is a leading supplier of navigation, communication, information, and automation systems for commercial marine and naval markets. We have an exciting 12 month placement opportunity in our Mechanical & Hardware Engineering Team for an undergraduate currently studying for a degree in a relevant STEM subject. This placement will be at our head office in New Malden, Surrey.
The role will involve experiencing what it is to be a Mechanical & Hardware Engineer through active participation in our ongoing projects, working alongside industry experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Team
- Support Engineering Change Orders activities
- Production of mechanical designs, documentation, drawings and 3D models
- Modification of older drawings, creation of new drawings and 3D models
- Full Hands-on development
- Work with Mechanical Chief Engineer, Mechanical Team Lead and Engineering Manager
- Good level technical documentation
- Hardware Team
- Post Development Support (PDS) and Engineering Field Issues for HW
- Support design of electronics for new projects
- PCB layout design
- New Schematics design and modification of older schematics
- Obsolescence management
- Liaise with Electronics Design Team, System Testing, Software Team and Supply Chain
- Full Hands-on development
- Work with Hardware Chief Engineer, Delivery Team Lead and Engineering Manager
- Type approval testing and preparation of test rigs
- Preparation of High level technical documentation
About You
Mechanical
- Understand, or appreciation of, Geometrical Tolerances
- Understand, or appreciation of, the Design Process
- Competent to create drawings, documents and BOM’s
- Able to write good level of Technical Documentation
- Understand, or appreciation of, the Manufacturing processes and techniques
- Understand, or appreciation of, the regulatory environment
- Understand, or appreciation of, test methods for Shock, Vibration, Ingress, Environmental, EMC
- Currently studying a relevant STEM subject such as Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge of Creo 8.0 and PDM Link 11.0
- Understanding of mechanical simulation (FEA)
Hardware
- Understand, or appreciation of, electronics schematics and electronic design process
- Able to check drawings, documents and BOM’s
- Able to write good level of Technical Documentation
- Understand, or appreciation of, Manufacturing processes and techniques
- Understand, or appreciation of, regulatory environment
- Understand test methods for Shock, Vibration, Ingress, Environmental, EMC
- Knowledge of professional eCAD software (such as PADS PRO)
- Knowledge of electronics simulation tools (such as LTSpice)
- Currently studying a relevant STEM subject such as Electronics Engineering
