Security Team Leader

Permanent | Location: Kensington, London | Hours: Full time, 4 on, 4 off, days 07:00 - 19:00 and nights 19:00 - 07:00 | Pay: £15.45 per hour

This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for ensuring the safety, wellbeing and performance of our Security Officers while upholding the highest standards of visitor care and operational excellence.

About the Role

  • Lead, motivate and support a team of Security Officers to deliver safe, effective and professional operations.
  • Oversee daily security activity including patrols, access control, incident management and emergency response.
  • Ensure all duties—core and ad‑hoc—are appropriately staffed through effective workforce coordination.
  • Conduct performance monitoring, appraisals and regular feedback to maintain high standards.
  • Support training, mentoring and development initiatives to enhance team capability and confidence.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, museum policies and risk‑management procedures.
  • Promote a positive, supportive working environment that prioritises staff wellbeing.
  • Balance robust security practices with excellent visitor service, ensuring a safe and welcoming experience for all.

What we are looking for

  • Proven supervisory or management experience within security, facilities or a public‑facing environment.
  • Strong leadership and people‑management skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams.
  • Solid understanding of security operations, health and safety legislation and emergency procedures.
  • Excellent communication, decision‑making and conflict‑resolution abilities.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism and reliability.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.
  • A valid front‑line SIA licence.
  • Ability to travel to and from central London during unsociable hours.
