Inventory Planning Team Leader

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing team of Inventory Planners.
  • Balance workloads, track performance and ensure priorities and deadlines are met.
  • Foster a culture of accuracy, ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee daily review of system‑generated exception reports (e.g. negative stock, variances, unusual movements).
  • Ensure timely, consistent corrective action across all product categories.
  • Identify and escalate recurring issues, managing location‑specific business rule exceptions where required.
  • Act as the primary contact for branch stock queries and support.
  • Provide clear guidance on stock processes, systems and best practice.
  • Partner with branches to resolve discrepancies and strengthen stock discipline.
  • Analyse root causes of stock inaccuracies and drive corrective actions.
  • Support improvements across receiving, issuing and stock movement processes.
  • Coordinate stock take activity, including preparation, execution, and follow‑up analysis.
  • Deliver clear weekly and monthly reporting on stock accuracy, exceptions and trends.
  • Highlight risks and opportunities to regional stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Distribution, Procurement, Category, Finance and Systems teams to ensure consistent stock control standards and support change initiatives.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience in stock control, inventory planning, or warehouse operations.
  • Strong ability to analyse data and identify root causes of stock issues.
  • Experience leading, supervising or supporting a team.
  • Clear, confident communication and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • High attention to detail with strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Experience within a builders’ merchant or similar operational environment (Desirable).
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and stock management tools (Desirable).
