Job Overview
We’re looking for a Porter to join our Front of House team, based within The Wellington Hospital. Our Portering team plays a critical role in the day‑to‑day operation of the hospital, ensuring patients, visitors, clinicians and colleagues are supported through safe, efficient and compassionate services. From patient transfers and logistics to security and emergency response, the team is central to keeping the hospital running smoothly. This role sits at the heart of the organisation and offers genuine visibility, variety and purpose.
As a Porter, you’ll be a vital point of contact for patients and visitors, helping to create a welcoming, safe and well‑organised hospital experience. No two days are the same — you’ll work closely with clinical teams, facilities, pharmacy and security, contributing to hospital efficiency while making a meaningful difference to patient journeys.

What you'll do
- Provide a warm, professional and welcoming portering service to patients, visitors and staff
- Transport patients safely between rooms, departments and hospital sites, including operating the hospital shuttle
- Support hospital logistics through the delivery of equipment, materials and management of clinical waste
- Monitor safety systems including CCTV, medical gas storage and security rounds, escalating issues as required
- Respond effectively to emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, fire or system failure
What you'll bring
- A full, clean UK driving licence is essential for this role
- Previous experience in a portering or similar facilities role
- The ability to lift and move equipment when required
- Strong communication skills with a clear focus on customer service
- An understanding of Health & Safety procedures
