Learning Support Assistant

About the Role
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] are an education recruitment agency working with a primary school in Barry to recruit a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 4 pupil with high tariff additional learning needs (ALN). This position starts in February 2026 and will run on a temporary basis, with potential for long-term continuation depending on funding and pupil progress.
Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with complex needs, which may include learning difficulties, communication challenges, and behaviour regulation
- Working closely with the class teacher, ALNCo, and external specialists to implement an individualised learning and behaviour support plan
- Supporting the child’s academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and social integration
- Assisting with transitions throughout the school day, including break and lunchtime if required
Requirements
- A minimum of 6 months' experience supporting children with ALN/complex needs, ideally in a 1:1 role
- A valid Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service or willingness to apply through [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal])
- Relevant qualifications or training in SEN, ALN, or behaviour support (desirable)
- Strong communication skills, resilience, and a calm, empathetic approach
