About the Role

Are you an aspiring Therapist or Counsellor looking to gain frontline experience working with children and young people? A specialist school in Thatcham is offering an exciting opportunity for a Mental Health Assistant – Aspiring Therapist who is keen to develop therapeutic skills while supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH needs, anxiety, and trauma-related behaviours. In this role, you’ll help students develop coping strategies, emotional awareness, and resilience within a nurturing and structured environment. You’ll support learning engagement, assist with emotional regulation, and build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who need consistency and understanding. You’ll work alongside therapists, SEN teachers, and pastoral teams, gaining insight into therapeutic interventions used in education — making this an excellent stepping stone toward careers in therapy, counselling, psychology, or mental health services.
