FULL DESCRIPTION

Junior Commercial Analyst

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] – Huddersfield

Full time, Permanent

Salary: Up to £30,000 DOE

The Mission

We run multiple e-commerce sites across various categories, and we move fast. We don’t need someone to just "input data" or build pretty charts that nobody looks at. We need a sharp, inquisitive mind to tell us where we’re winning, where we’re losing, and—most importantly—where we’re being clinical vs. where we’re being lazy.

As a Junior Commercial Analyst, you’ll be the person who isn’t afraid to point out that the "emperor has no clothes". You’ll dive into our data to uncover the truth, even if it makes a project or a strategy look bad.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • The "Why" Hunter: Proactively dig into performance across our websites. If a category is down 10%, we don't want a report saying it's down; we want you to tell us why and what we should change.
  • Commercial Scrutiny: Build and maintain dashboards that track the "Big 3": Traffic, Conversion, and Margin
  • Forecasting & Modelling: Learn to predict the impact of price changes or promotions. You’ll be the one saying, "If we run this 20% off deal, we need to sell X more units just to break even on margin—is that actually realistic?"
  • Post-Match Analysis: Review campaigns after they finish. We value honesty here—if a promotion failed, we want the data that proves it, so we don't repeat the mistake.
  • The Bridge: Work between the tech-heavy data teams and the fast-paced commercial teams, translating complex numbers into plain English.

Are You the Right Fit?

  • Natural Intelligence: You’re someone who "gets it" the first time. You can connect dots between disparate pieces of information quickly.
  • Relentless Curiosity: You aren't satisfied with surface-level answers. You naturally want to know how things work and how they can be better.
  • Radical Candour: This is big for us. You must be comfortable saying what’s on your mind. If the data shows a senior manager’s pet project is failing, you need the confidence to present those facts clearly and without sugar-coating.
  • Data Literate: You should be a "power user" in Excel/Google Sheets. If you know SQL or have used BI tools (Power BI/Looker), that’s a bonus—if not, you need the aptitude to learn them fast.
  • Commercial Instinct: You understand that at the end of the day, we are here to make a profit. You think in terms of ROI and $Gross Margin$.

What Success Looks Like

  • 3 Months in: You’ve mastered our core KPIs and have identified at least three "leaks" in our current reporting or strategy.
  • 6 Months in: You are the "go-to" person for the commercial teams. They trust your numbers, but they also know you’ll challenge them if their logic is flawed.
  • 12 Months in: Your insights have directly led to a measurable increase in profit or a significant reduction in wasted spend.

What’s in it for you?

  • Direct Impact: You aren't a cog in a machine. Your analysis will change how we spend money and run our sites.
  • High Visibility: You’ll be working closely with senior leadership.
  • The "Real World" MBA: You’ll learn more about the mechanics of a multi-million-pound ecommerce business here in six months than you would in three years at a slow-moving corporate.
  • Autonomy: We don't micro-manage. We give you the tools and the data, then get out of your way.

How to Apply

Don't just send a generic CV. Tell us about a time you used data or logic to change someone's mind, or a time you spotted a mistake that everyone else had missed.
