Back End Developer (Laravel)
Location: Southampton (Hybrid working model)
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000
Experience: Minimum 3 years’ professional experience
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Back End Developer to join a growing technology team in Southampton. The successful candidate will work primarily on back-end development using Laravel in a commercial environment, contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of business-critical systems. While the role is predominantly back end focused, there will be a small amount of front-end work (approximately 10–20%) using React.js, supporting existing applications and features. Most company systems are built using Laravel with React.js on the front end, so strong experience with this stack is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain back-end services using Laravel
- Work with PostgreSQL databases, writing efficient queries and maintaining data integrity
- Collaborate within an Agile / SCRUM environment, participating in ceremonies and planning
- Support and maintain existing applications while contributing to new feature development
- Assist with small amounts of front-end development using React.js
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Work closely with developers, product owners, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ professional development experience
- Strong commercial experience with Laravel (essential)
- Working knowledge of React.js (for limited front-end work)
- Experience using PostgreSQL
- Solid understanding of Agile / SCRUM methodologies
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desirable Skills
- Experience with AWS infrastructure
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with database optimisation and migrations
- Familiarity with modern DevOps practices
