The Role
As Senior Wires/Technical Trainer, you will take ownership of wiring capability development across the Group. You will act as the lead technical trainer and mentor, providing practical coaching, technical guidance and structured support to junior staff, apprentices and wider production teams, whilst also offering hands-on assistance within the wiring function as required to support production output. This role is critical in ensuring wiring workmanship, IPC standards, documentation, quality and safe working practices are consistently maintained and continuously improved.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee wiring and assembly activities, ensuring adherence to technical specifications, quality standards and safe working practices
- Train, mentor and supervise junior wiring staff and apprentices
- Lead training delivery for both knowledge and workmanship elements of IPC/WHMA-A-620
- Interpret and work from electrical/electronic schematics, wiring diagrams and technical drawings
- Develop and maintain wiring training guides, SOPs, checklists and competency documentation
- Conduct quality checks and troubleshoot technical wiring issues
- Promote health and safety best practice and ensure compliance with relevant standards
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across wiring processes, training and team performance
- Act as a technical escalation point for wiring-related queries across the Group
- Provide practical hands-on wiring support within the production team when required
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- Completed electrical/electronic apprenticeship or equivalent vocational qualification
- Proven experience (5+ years) wiring control panels, looms or harnesses within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment
- Strong knowledge of electrical components, terminations and assembly standards
- Demonstrable experience training, mentoring or supporting development of others within a technical setting
- Ability to confidently read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics
- Strong knowledge of wiring safety regulations and safe working practices
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical tasks clearly and methodically
- High attention to detail and quality-led mindset
- Practical problem-solving ability with a hands-on approach
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds Level 3 in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar
- Formal assessor, trainer or teaching qualification (AET, TAQA or equivalent)
- Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards
- Experience producing structured training programmes, SOPs or competency frameworks
- Experience with Lean, 5S or other continuous improvement methodologies
- Experience supporting multiple sites or distributed teams
