Job Description
We are seeking a full-time Editor of Oryx to lead and manage the Journal. This role offers the chance to make a lasting contribution to conservation science and practice, influencing policy and on-the-ground efforts through enabling the dissemination of cutting-edge conservation learning.
As Editor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the journal’s scientific and strategic direction, ensuring it remains at the forefront of global conservation discourse. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced conservation professional with a strong academic background and editorial expertise to influence the way conservation science is communicated and applied, and play an important role in building local conservation leadership capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the editorial vision of Oryx, maintaining its reputation for scientific rigor and relevance.
- Engage with a global network of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to promote high-quality, impactful content.
- Support diversity and inclusion in authorship and readership, amplifying voices from underrepresented regions and disciplines.
- Collaborate with a dedicated team to deliver a journal that informs, inspires, and drives conservation action.
Qualifications and Experience
- PhD in conservation or a related field, coupled with an extensive track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Proven editorial experience and a deep understanding of global conservation issues.
- Ability to critically evaluate diverse scientific manuscripts and manage complex editorial workflows.
- Exceptional leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
- Experience working internationally and commitment to building local conservation leadership capacity.
- Experience advancing diversity and equity in scientific publishing is an advantage.
