Mobile Plant Fitters/Mechanics

Location: Birmingham | Department: Workshop
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake routine servicing, scheduled maintenance and remedial repairs on a wide range of plant machinery including excavators, telehandlers, rollers and associated attachments.
- Carry out fault diagnosis on mechanical, hydraulic and basic electrical systems, using appropriate diagnostic tools and manufacturer documentation.
- Repair or replace components such as pumps, valves, engines, transmissions, hydraulic hoses and fittings, ensuring work meets safety and quality standards.
- Perform pre-delivery and post-repair checks, complete work sheets and record service history accurately using company systems.
- Strip down and rebuild units where necessary, and liaise with parts and procurement teams to ensure timely availability of spares.
- Fit and remove attachments safely, check correct fitment and carry out adjustments or repairs as required.
- Support depot and site teams with vehicle and machine marshalling, loading for transport and basic on-site assistance when required.
- Adhere to health and safety policies and safe working practices, participate in toolbox talks and complete risk assessments as required.
- Provide professional technical advice to customers and colleagues, demonstrating the company's commitment to service and standards.
- Keep up to date with manufacturer guidance, technical bulletins and attend relevant training to maintain competence.
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience as a plant fitter, mechanic or similar role within plant, construction or civil engineering environments.
- Relevant NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in Plant Maintenance, Heavy Vehicle or Mechanical Engineering is desirable.
- Good practical knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics and basic electrical systems.
- Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams and hydraulic schematics.
- Experience using diagnostic tools, multimeters and workshop equipment.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites and between depots.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, organised and able to manage workload to meet business priorities, including occasional out-of-hours or emergency call-outs.
