Length: 6 months initially
Location: 2-3 days per week in Liverpool

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in modernising a legacy Business Objects data warehouse, migrating to a modern Azure and Databricks platform. This is an opportunity to take ownership across discovery, build and deployment, helping shape a new cloud-based data environment with real impact across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead discovery activities to understand the current Business Objects data warehouse, dependencies, data flows and reporting needs
  • Design and build modern data pipelines and data models on Azure and Databricks to support analytics and downstream consumption
  • Migrate and re-platform data from legacy systems into the new cloud environment, ensuring accuracy, performance and reliability
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into practical, scalable engineering solutions
  • Drive best practice across data engineering, including quality, monitoring, performance optimisation and deployment processes
  • Support deployment activities, release planning and operational readiness as the new platform goes live

Person Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Data Engineer delivering data warehouse modernisation or migration projects
  • Strong SQL expertise (advanced querying, optimisation, data modelling concepts)
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks and Azure data services in a production environment
  • Experience building end-to-end solutions: discovery, design, build, test and deploy
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving with a focus on delivering reliable, maintainable solutions

Next Steps

If you’re a Senior Data Engineer ready to lead a move to Databricks on Azure and want a role where your work will shape a modern data platform, we’d like to hear from you. Shortlisting will take place on the 7th, 8th and 9th April with a quick turnaround expected for interviews and start.
