[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a skilled, practical and enthusiastic Design & Technology Technician to play a vital role in supporting our thriving and well-resourced Design & Technology department.

This is a full-time, permanent role, primarily working during term time with some additional weeks outside term. A compressed working pattern during term time may be available, offering a degree of flexibility across the year.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically confident individual who enjoys a hands-on role and is motivated by helping young people turn creative ideas into high-quality physical outcomes.

About the role

Working closely with teaching colleagues, you will provide practical and technical support across a range of Design & Technology disciplines, including woodworking, metalworking and digital fabrication. You will contribute to the smooth and safe running of our workshops and support students across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 (GCSE, A level and IB).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing, organising and managing materials and resources for practical lessons
  • Maintaining workshop machinery, tools and equipment, including specialist and digitally controlled equipment
  • Supporting CAD/CAM processes and digital manufacturing workflows
  • Ensuring excellent health & safety standards, including risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Supporting staff and students during practical activities
  • Assisting with co-curricular Design & Technology activities where required

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Technically skilled, reliable and well organised
  • Safety-conscious, with a strong understanding of workshop best practice
  • A proactive team player with a positive, approachable manner
  • Confident working independently and supporting others

You will ideally have:

  • A degree-level qualification (or equivalent experience) in Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Practical experience and working knowledge of workshop tools, machinery and equipment
  • An understanding of workshop risk assessments and safe systems of work

(Training will be provided where appropriate, particularly in relation to school-specific equipment and processes.)
