Junior Fertility Nurse or Midwife

Each [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] clinic is a fully-integrated centre of medical excellence dedicated to caring for and protecting all aspects of a woman’s gynaecological and reproductive health. [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is committed to providing patients a high level of individualised patient care. We are seeking a Junior Fertility Nurse or Midwife to carry out duties related to patient care, information counselling, treatment, and administration.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Fully understand [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s clinical protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), patient information and consent forms
  • Deal with telephone and e-mail enquiries in a professional manner
  • Contemporaneously ensure all offered treatment, advice, treatment cycles and outcomes are recorded in line with current HFEA guidelines and SOPs
  • Possess a working knowledge of patient’s drug regimes and treatment plans
  • Document all information in patient notes in MedITEX
  • Perform venepuncture, interpret and give blood results
  • Co-ordinate treatment cycle plans and teach patients to self-administer fertility drugs
  • Obtain informed consent from patients within HFEA guidelines
  • Inform patients about implications of treatment and provide support
  • Assist with ultrasound scanning (following adequate training)
  • Prepare theatre for egg retrieval, embryo transfer, insertion of IUCD, cervical dilatation, surgical sperm retrieval and gynaecological procedures
  • Assist in theatre as necessary
  • Recover patients following IV sedation
  • Perform and supervise intrauterine insemination procedures
  • Perform pregnancy test and inform patient of results
  • Collect specimens, label and despatch to external laboratory
  • Support patients during egg recovery and embryo replacement
  • Scrub and circulate in the operating theatre
  • Admit, discharge and escort patients
  • Scan patients in theatre when undergoing embryo transfer
  • Provide cover for ill health or emergencies for other nursing staff
  • Participate in a weekend and out-of-hours rota
  • Prepare and clean consultation rooms
  • Support patients pre- and post-gynaecology exam
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • Comply with HFEA Code of Practice, Health and Social Care Act 2008, CQC regulations, Data Protection Act 2018

  • Comply with infection control and safeguarding policies
  • Competent in basic life support and immediate life support

Location

Job Type & Hours

Permanent. 40 hours per week, 10 hours per day, 4 days per week, 8am to 6pm, on-call phone rota and 1:3 weekend rota.

Salary

£35,000-£37,500 per annum

Qualifications

  • Fertility Nursing: 1 year (preferred)
  • NHS Nursing: 1 year (preferred)
  • NMC (required)
  • Enhanced DBS check required
