Senior Supervisor – Press Shop
The main purpose of the Senior Supervisor is to lead and manage a shift within the Press Shop with full accountability for achieving operational KPIs in line with the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Production System (UPS), departmental objectives, and the Midterm Strategic Plan as well as ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality press operations while driving continuous improvement through proactive engagement, structured problem-solving, and effective leadership of supervisors and operators.
Salary: up to £63,600 depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic deployment of QCDMS to meet UPS targets across quality, cost, delivery, morale, and safety.
- Take ownership of KPI performance, deploying structured improvement activities aligned with the departmental and midterm strategy.
- Manage people performance through robust supervisory oversight, coaching, and personal development plans.
- Deliver sustained output improvements via SPM (Strokes Per Minute) optimisation, press availability, and shift control disciplines.
- Ensure daily production planning aligns with long-term capacity, cost targets, and customer demand.
- Actively engage in cross-functional collaboration to deliver strategic goals.
- Drive a culture of ownership, problem solving, and visual management at the shop floor level.
- Proactively manage absence, holidays, disciplinaries, and recruitment processes in line with HR policy.
- Support the development and succession of team members through coaching, mentoring, and structured feedback.
- Ensure effective communication and cascade of safety, quality, and production updates to all relevant stakeholders.
- Take ownership of budgetary control within the shift and contribute to strategic cost-reduction initiatives.
Essential Skills / Experience / Qualifications
- Minimum Level 5 qualification in Operations Management (or equivalent) is required.
- Proven experience in a strategic supervisory or frontline management role within a fast-paced, manufacturing environment.
- Strong capability in deploying KPI-driven strategies that align with midterm business planning.
- Demonstrated ability to lead under pressure, manage change, and respond to immediate production challenges.
- Deep understanding of QCDMS, continuous improvement tools, and visual management systems.
- Advanced knowledge of safety risk assessments, safety KPI reporting, and proactive accident countermeasure deployment.
- Proficient in HR processes, including disciplinaries, appraisals, and manpower planning.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- IT literacy and experience using digital tools to manage training, safety, and production data.
- A leader who models safety-first behaviours and fosters a positive, accountable shop floor culture.
Beneficial Skills / Experience / Qualifications
- Experience within the automotive industry would be an advantage and demonstrated strategic-level working.
- The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in press operations or die engineering, preferably within the automotive industry or a comparable high-volume manufacturing environment.
