The Medical Secretary plays a key role in supporting clinicians and ensuring the smooth running of the practice. The role involves managing patient records, producing clinical correspondence, coordinating appointments and staff diaries, and liaising with patients, colleagues, and external healthcare providers. Accuracy, confidentiality, and excellent communication skills are essential.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Produce and manage clinical correspondence, including referral letters, reports, and medical documentation
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records
- Manage staff diaries and schedule appointments
- Liaise with hospitals, community services, and other external services
- Support the management and optimisation of practice IT systems
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives across the practice
- Provide general administrative support to the clinical and management team
- Uphold confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding standards at all times
