Marine Engineering Technician (Electrical)
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Marine Engineering Technician (Electrical) based in Denton, Gravesend, Kent. This is a full-time, on-site role within the Marine Engineering department.
Role Overview
Working within the Marine Engineering team at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], the successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking maintenance of machinery and hull systems in a fleet of small commercial craft (up to 36m), shore facilities and piers. In addition to skilled maintenance, fault finding and installation work and plant driving, the ME Technician will be required to supervise the work of other technical staff/contractors and serve as relief Ship's Engineers in the Authority's Salvage Craft. They will also be expected to impart their knowledge and experience onto junior and trainee staff. Candidates must be self-motivated and capable of undertaking manual lifting operations.
Requirements
- A time served Marine/Industrial Electrical Engineering Technician, with a HNC in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent desirable, demonstrating both theoretical and practical experience in fault diagnosis, maintenance and operation of a wide range of mechanical, electrical and control systems across the marine fleet and plant.
- Vessel & industrial electrical distribution and control systems at 12V & 24V dc and 230V, plus 415V ac occasionally.
- Electrical fitting and installation
- The current edition of BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and the Electricity at Work Regs.
- Diesel engine electronic control systems would be an advantage
- Diesel engine and vessel mechanical systems (fuel systems, cooling systems, propulsion systems etc.) would be an advantage
- Marine navigation equipment installation and fault finding would be an advantage.
- Be highly motivated and able to work separately or as part of a team.
- Possess and maintain a clean UK Full Driving Licence (manual).
- Be able to operate Forklift Trucks etc. (training can be given).
- Be agile, able to climb ladders and to work in small/confined spaces, e.g. small boat engine rooms and tank spaces etc.

Salary & Additional Info
Salary: £47,001 per annum (plus 10% operational allowance). Base: Denton, Gravesend, Kent. Closing date: 28th May 2026 (may close early).
