Character Artist

Key Duties Include

  • Work with the Lead Character Artist, Art Director and Animation team to create compelling and plausible characters that meet the technical requirements of the project
  • Collaborate with other departments such as animation, tech art, and game design to ensure all character assets are optimized and integrated into the game world effectively
  • Assist in developing and implementing new techniques and tools to improve the quality and efficiency of the character art pipeline
  • Maintain clear communication with team members to ensure that project goals and deadlines are met
  • Actively seek out feedback
  • Work closely with Technical Artists and Engineering team to ensure the character assets are optimized for performance
  • Participate in critiques and reviews of character art assets to maintain a high standard and ensure that they meet the needs of the game

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Shipped one or more games as a character artist
  • Excellent collaboration skills, you thrive working as part of a team
  • An excellent portfolio with recent examples of Character Art
  • An understanding of human anatomy
  • Proficiency with industry standard tools such as Maya, 3DS Studio Max, ZBrush, Marvelous Designer
  • Proficiency with surfacing tools such as Photoshop and Substance Painter
  • Be able to create realistic, human characters from concept to finished in-game asset maintaining a high quality throughout
  • Understanding of human movement and how it deforms the body
  • Understanding of cloth deformation, clothing and how it interacts with the body
  • Understanding of shaders and how they effect the look of a character
  • Proven abilities in producing optimized 3D assets for games

Desirable

  • Experience with Unreal Engine
  • Passion for character design
  • Experience with life drawing
  • A passion for video games and an understanding of current trends in relation to character art
