Job Description

The Senior CAD & BIM Coordinator will lead the production and coordination of technical drawings and models for integrated AV and lighting systems. This role combines CAD and BIM expertise with workflow management, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements and [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s standards. The Senior CAD & BIM Coordinator will develop and maintain drawing standards, mentor the drafting team, and ensure high-quality outputs across CAD and BIM platforms. Collaborate with project teams to align models with BIM Execution Plans and ISO 19650 principles, playing a key role in multidisciplinary environments. It plays a key role in BIM-led project delivery, contributing to multidisciplinary coordination and structured information management in line with project BIM requirements.

Your day will look like this:

  • Lead the production and coordination of 2D and 3D drawings and models for integrated audio-visual and lighting systems across all project stages.
  • Collaborate with Applications & Support Engineers, Business Development Managers, and Project Managers to define drawing and modelling scope, helping to define and schedule deliverables, and maintain workflow alignment.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Application Support to review and delegate work within the CAD team, ensuring efficient task allocation and timely delivery in line with project milestones.
  • Mentor and support more junior CAD technicians, carrying out peer reviews of their work before submission for technical verification by Applications & Support Engineers and scope sign-off by Project Managers and Business Development Managers.
  • Maintain drawing and model accuracy in accordance with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s CAD standards, BIM workflows, and main contractor documentation requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain templates, title blocks, symbol libraries, and drawing conventions, ensuring consistent application across all projects.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of CAD/BIM standards, style guides, and SOPs in collaboration with the Head of Application Support and Lead Application Engineer.
  • Actively participate in BIM coordination processes on construction projects, including multidisciplinary design reviews, ensuring integration of AV and lighting systems within the broader building model.
  • Interpret and work in accordance with project BIM Execution Plans (BEP), Employer’s Information Requirements (EIR), and information delivery plans where applicable.
  • Manage and issue model and drawing information within Common Data Environments (CDEs), ensuring compliance with project naming conventions, revision control, and approval workflows.
  • Ensure that all modelled elements and drawing outputs are structured to meet project information requirements, including appropriate use of classification, metadata, and level of information need (LOIN).
  • Coordinate with BIM Managers, Information Managers, and external consultants to ensure alignment with project-wide BIM standards and information exchange protocols.
  • Support internal teams in understanding BIM requirements and workflows, helping to embed consistent information management practices across the Application Support function.
  • Participate in drawing reviews and project documentation audits to maintain quality and consistency across all deliverables.
  • Manage file organisation, version control, and project data environments in line with company procedures.
  • Maintain document control across all drawing and model outputs, ensuring correct naming conventions, revision tracking, and transmittal of controlled documents in accordance with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and client documentation standards.
  • Any other reasonable ad-hoc requests as required by your manager.

Essential Skills / Experience

  • Advanced proficiency in Vectorworks, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • Significant, proven experience producing coordinated technical drawings and models within AV, lighting, construction, or related technical design environments.
  • Experience working within BIM-coordinated or construction-based project frameworks, including liaison with MEP contractors and main contractors.
  • Proven ability to lead or coordinate workload planning and quality review, working alongside a small design/drafting team.
  • Strong understanding of AV and lighting system documentation, including schematics, layouts, elevations, sections, and containment drawings.
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical mounting and fixings for AV and lighting equipment (e.g., bracketry, Unistrut/secondary steel, anchors), including interpreting manufacturer load data and applying appropriate safety factors.
  • Ability to interpret and apply basic structural principles (e.g., point loads, UDLs, cantilever moments) and coordinate mounting solutions with structural/MEP teams, producing clear setting-out and detail drawings.
  • Experience managing drawing standards, title blocks, and digital libraries.
  • Strong working knowledge of BIM workflows, file exchange formats, and collaborative model coordination.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to manage project deadlines simultaneously with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and project data environments (e.g., SharePoint, BIM 360, or equivalent).

Desirable Skills / Experience

  • Experience in developing and maintaining CAD standards and technical documentation for cross-disciplinary AV project teams.
  • Experience producing or marking up simple fabrication drawings for brackets/plates and coordinating with fabricators, with awareness of relevant UK best practices and hardware compliance (e.g., UKCA/CE-marked components).
  • Exposure to audio-visual or entertainment technology system design.
  • Understanding of Vectorworks scripting, Revit family creation, or AutoCAD block management.

Work Experience

A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role

Essential Level of Education

Educated to A-level (or equivalent) in CAD, BIM, or a related technical field, or relevant working experience.

Desirable Level of Education

Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Architectural Technology, Building Information Modelling, or a related design discipline, or relevant working experience.
