Senior Applications & Support Engineer – Audio & Life-Safety Systems

This senior role provides technical expertise in designing and delivering Public Address and Voice Alarm (PAVA) solutions, focusing on redundancy, compliance, and resilience across pre-sales, project delivery, and service support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops primarily bespoke audio and life-safety solutions, integrating off-the-shelf platforms.
- Supports complex projects within established architectural frameworks.
- Integrates video, lighting, and control systems.
- Acts as an escalation point for complex issues.
- Contributes to pre-sales, design, project delivery, and service support phases.
Your Day Will Look Like
Pre-Sales & Bid Support
- Supports Business Development Managers during pre-sales for audio and life-safety-critical projects.
- Assists in identifying technical risks, redundancy requirements, and compliance implications.
- Contributes to bid-stage system concepts, schematics, and technical narratives.
- Works collaboratively with the Head of Application Support and Lead Applications Engineer.
Design & Project Delivery Support
- Contributes to detailed design and development of bespoke audio and life-safety systems.
- Supports programming, configuration, testing, and commissioning preparation for audio and PAVA systems.
- Produces technical documentation including schematics, signal flow diagrams, rack layouts, and handover materials.
- Provides technical support during commissioning and handover.
- Maintains close collaboration with the Lead Applications Engineer & Solutions Architect.
Service & Lifecycle Support
- Provides hands-on technical support and specialist escalation for in-service audio and PAVA systems.
- Contributes to planned lifecycle support activities including service reviews and upgrade planning.
- Undertakes service-related technical investigations.
- Reports findings back to the Lead Applications Engineer to refine future design strategies.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years in technical audio engineering or application support involving life-safety or large-scale commercial AV.
- Demonstrable experience with PAVA and life-safety audio systems including redundancy and fault tolerance.
- Strong understanding of EN 54 requirements and emergency voice alarm principles.
- Experience with DSP-based audio platforms (e.g. Q-SYS).
- Experience with networked audio and control systems (Dante, IP-based).
- Working knowledge of network infrastructure concepts (VLANs, redundancy, managed switches).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Comfortable working across pre-sales, design, delivery, and service support phases.
Desirable Skills
- ECS/CSCS card (training can be supported).
- Awareness of BS 5839-8, ISO 7240, and guidance like the Green Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds.
Essential Requirements
- Right to work and remain in the UK.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Ability to travel throughout the UK including overnight stays.
