Job Description

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Building Structures’ busy Bristol office is seeking to recruit a Chartered or near Chartered Engineer to the position of Associate Director to form an integral part of the Structures team.

Reporting directly to the Regional Director, you will play a key leadership role in the delivery and management of structural engineering projects across a diverse portfolio. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to take the next step in their career within a growing and dynamic regional office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, inspection, and assessment of a wide range of structural materials and forms
  • Manage multiple projects and clients across sectors including Retail, Industrial, Residential, Telecommunications, Technology, and Leisure
  • Provide technical leadership and ensure high-quality project delivery across the team
  • Take responsibility for resource planning, workload management, and project performance
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, supporting repeat business and new opportunities
  • Oversee financial management of projects, including fee monitoring and profitability
  • Support and actively contribute to the mentoring and development of engineers within the team
  • Work collaboratively with regional leadership to support business growth and strategy

About You

  • Chartered or near Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStructE)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in structural engineering consultancy
  • Proven track record in delivering complex projects across multiple sectors
  • Strong experience in managing multiple clients and concurrent projects
  • Excellent client-facing, communication, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability in time management, delegation, and team coordination
  • Experience in financial and commercial management of projects
  • A proactive, collaborative, and commercially aware approach

This role offers excellent long-term prospects for the right candidate, with potential progression to Regional Director level in the medium term. You will play a key role in shaping the future of the Bristol Structures team, with increasing responsibility for both technical and operational leadership.
