The School
Language and Linguistics is clustered within the School of Education, Language and Psychology, an ambitious and vibrant academic unit. The school has an established Research Centre for Language and Social Justice. The successful applicant for this post will be encouraged to think about ways in which they (and their students) can contribute towards the development of the Centre.
The Role
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in TESOL and Applied Linguistics. The successful candidate will join a team of seventeen Languages and Linguistics academics based within the School of Education, Language and Psychology. We offer BA and MA programmes in British Sign Language, Deaf Studies, English Language and Linguistics, Intercultural Communication, Japanese, Korean, Language and Social Justice, and TESOL. We are looking for someone who can lead our TESOL provision, and as part of that take on the programme leadership role for our flagship English Language and Linguistics, and English Language, Linguistics and TESOL programmes.
Key Requirements
- Expertise in teaching areas of both TESOL and Applied Linguistics at Undergraduate level and ideally at Masters level.
- Hold a doctoral level qualification and be actively engaged in research.
- Research expertise in TESOL and active engagement in research networks in the TESOL field.
- Research interests in Applied Linguistics and social justice issues would be an advantage.
- During term-time and assessment periods, majority of work involves teaching, assessment, and pastoral/academic support.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience of programme/course leadership, ideally in the TESOL field.
- Experience with externally accredited TESOL programmes.
- Experience of setting up and/or contributing to community language learning initiatives.
- Holding a CELTA or DELTA qualification would be an advantage.
