Head of Design – Frameworks (National)

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the design strategy behind some of the UK’s most important projects. As Head of Design, you will drive consistency, innovation and best practice across our national framework delivery, ensuring exceptional design quality from concept through to completion and beyond.

Working closely with regional design management teams, you will provide strategic leadership and guidance to ensure framework projects are delivered consistently, meeting client expectations while aligning with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s high standards for quality, safety and performance.

You will also take ownership of the development, implementation and continuous improvement of technical standards across the frameworks. By embedding best practice, capturing lessons learned and promoting innovation, you will play a key role in improving efficiency, strengthening collaboration with our design partners and enhancing the overall quality of project outcomes.

About You

  • Strong technical foundation and proven track record in design leadership within the construction sector.
  • Educated to HND, HNC or degree level.
  • Experience shaping design strategies and delivering high-quality outcomes across complex projects.
  • Comfortable operating across a range of procurement routes, including single-stage tenders and preferred partner arrangements.
  • Experience managing design on primary and secondary education projects.
  • Natural collaborator with strong leadership and management skills.
  • Highly organised and commercially aware, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of construction practices and standards.
  • Confidence to challenge, influence and guide others.
  • Comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders and communicating complex ideas.
