Salaried General Practitioner

Job Summary

The post holder will support the Senior Partner, Managing Partner and the two GP Partners to manage a busy, interesting clinical caseload ensuring the highest standard of care for all registered and temporary patients. The post holder will carry out all the duties reasonably expected of an NHS General Practitioner using the standards expected by the GMC and RCGP in line with appropriate national and/or local guidelines.

Main Duties of the Job

This role is for a Salaried General Practitioner at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], working 4 sessions per week on a permanent contract with a salary of £61,581.92 per annum.

The GP will manage a varied clinical caseload, delivering high-quality care to registered and temporary patients. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting face-to-face, telephone, and electronic consultations
  • Participating in same-day/urgent care rotas
  • Carrying out occasional home visits
  • Managing long-term conditions such as asthma and diabetes
  • Prescribing medication and handling repeat prescriptions
  • Completing patient records, referrals, reports, and correspondence

The role also involves contributing to practice organisation, maintaining accurate patient records, attending team meetings, and complying with NHS, GMC, and practice policies.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  1. In accordance with the practice rota, the post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including on the day surgery, telephone and electronic consultations and queries, visiting patients home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  2. Participating in the on the day rota, supporting other Clinicians including ANPs and Paramedic Practitioners.
  3. Responding to medical problems presented by temporary residents.
  4. Long-term condition reviews, assisting in the establishment of appropriate systems to manage common chronic medical conditions e.g. asthma, diabetes.
  5. Making professional, autonomous decisions relating to presenting, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].
  6. Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems, including triaging patients using the AccuRx system when required.
  7. Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  8. In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols and procedures, developing care plans for health management.
  9. Providing counselling and health education.
  10. Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards including the recording of appropriate information for the Quality and Outcomes Framework and Enhanced Services.
  11. Prescribing in accordance with Practice policy and NHS England Formulary as clinically appropriate.
  12. Collecting data for audit purposes.
  13. To participate in targeted health promotion activity to benefit patients.
  14. Compiling and issuing computer-generated accurate and repeat prescriptions.
  15. Appropriate medicine prescribing for both acute and repeat requirement in accordance with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] prescribing formulary and guidelines whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  16. Timely assessment of incoming electronic and paper correspondence relating to both patient and non-patient information as required. Using the appropriate electronic systems.
  17. Participate in training plans of GP register, medical and nursing students as required.
  18. To complete insurance, DSS, DVLA and other reports relating to patients under your care.
  19. In general the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care and any other duties reasonably required by [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].

The post holder will be required to carry out home visits occasionally, during surgery in an emergency. Home visits are normally carried out after morning surgery. Administration: the post holder will be required to ensure that all relevant administration is completed during normal working hours. This includes completion of medical/insurance examinations in a timely and appropriate manner to meet the needs of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s registered patients. To take part in the surgery rota for on the day appointments or dealing with urgent queries via telephone.

Practice Organisation

  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • Process and action incoming patient and hospital correspondence.
  • Attendance at Primary Health Care Team and Clinical Team meetings.

  • Maintaining regular, consistent and professional attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.
  • Ensuring daily effective handling of all incoming communication including emails.

Maintaining, Monitoring and Updating Computerised Patient Records

  • Contributing to the development of computer based patient records.
  • Contributing to the summarising of patient records and read coding patient data.
  • Ensure clinical database is updated promptly and accurately as required for practice protocols, QOF, Enhanced Services etc.
  • Respond to alerts on patient records.

  • Participate in the collection and collation of statistics as required.
  • Participate in audits of clinical work and patient satisfaction.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Essential: Ability to work unsupervised; ability to draft cogent, error free letters and reports; ability to manage pressures of a busy clinical workload; good time management.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with SystmOne.

Qualifications

  • Essential: MBBS / MBChB / BMBS or equivalent UK primary medical qualification; registration with the General Medical Council; enhanced DBS check.
  • Desirable: Understanding of GMS contract, QOF, and enhanced services.
