Job summary

The Mental Health division of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] comprises of three directorates; Adult Mental Health, Mental Health Services for Older People and Specialist Services. Main duties of the job

  • To provide a defined level of specialist assessment and provide access to interventions for a diverse patient group and their families under the care programme approach, who present with significant mental health conditions.
  • To offer a stabilisation outpatient clinic with the potential to prescribe medications, to patients that have attended Nottingham University hospitals and seen by liaison psychiatry.
  • To provide realistic timely or occasionally intensive support to patients within an acute hospital setting.
  • To demonstrate active clinical leadership skills within the team, providing education and supervision to junior staff members and other professionals.

Job responsibilities

  • To implement and evaluate safe, creative and effective treatment plans in collaboration with the patients diverse needs, their carers and other professionals.
  • Ensuring all interventions are evidence based and designed to reduce stress and anxiety, manage risk and aid recovery.
  • To maintain accurate, timely and relevant clinical records both written and computerised. To maintaining the safe custody of healthcare records.
  • Responsible for the team and individual application for safe monitoring, management and administration of medication as required by Trust policy.
  • Evidence of awareness and completion of relevant assessments. Individual care plans which are specific to areas of need and are evidence based. Quality service provision is reported by service users and carers.
  • Appropriate professional and agreed criteria are met Clinical Governance systems maintained.
  • Practice is monitored through regular supervision process.
  • Trust Policy and procedures are followed.
  • Safe Practice is delivered.
  • Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Standards, Guidance and legislation is adhered to.
  • Child and Adult Safeguarding Policy, guidance and legal frameworks are adhered to.
  • To apply the principles on infection prevention and control and to comply with Trust policy, procedure and guidance for the team.
  • To obtain and interpret physical Healthcare observations acting upon them when required and support the nursing staff around complex cases.
  • Demonstrate and be responsible for the safe application of relevant, up-to-date legislation (including the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty etc) within a specified area.
  • To be responsible for the team and individual application of safeguarding responsibilities for children and vulnerable adults in line with Trust policy, procedure and guidance, including making timely child and adult safeguarding referrals as required.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Maintain current registration with the NMC
  • Professional clinical Qualification plus further specialist knowledge/post registration experience to diploma / degree level or equivalent knowledge and skills in mental health underpinned by theory or other formal training.
  • Must have NMP

Desirable

  • Teaching Qualification
  • NMP experience in clinical practice

Experience

Essential

  • Must have recent experience working within a Liaison Psychiatry setting.
  • Previous experience of working with adults aged 18-65
  • Demonstrate satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years post registration experience

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within older adults aged 65+
  • The ability to deal with and resolve conflict

Skills

Essential

  • Be willing to continue to develop and complete CPD
  • Evidence of post graduate CPD
  • Demonstrate Leadership skills and qualities

Desirable

  • A high level of emotional intelligence
