Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic Clinical Lead Specialist Physiotherapist for an exciting role within West London Children's Healthcare Paediatric Respiratory Medicine & Asthma Service. This is a clinical & research post with 50% clinical practice, & 50% academic time funded by the Biomedical Research Centre. You will be part of the MDT delivering care for children & young people with complex respiratory conditions, contributing your expert assessment, intervention & advice to the diagnostic process and patient pathways. Leading physiotherapy provision for Paediatric Respiratory Medicine & Asthma, & jointly with the MDT, you will be responsible for developing the service, promoting a learning culture, supervising staff, enabling service delivery informed by best evidence and expert knowledge. As a Senior Clinician Researcher, you will provide research activities within Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, contributing to the implementation of research into clinical practice, and participating in the education of health professionals about the application of research evidence. Main Duties of the Job

  • The Clinical Lead Specialist Physiotherapist will provide clinical and managerial leadership which inspires motivates and empowers therapists in the delivery of excellent patient experience.
  • They will be responsible for the day to day operational service planning and delivery of physiotherapy within Paediatric Respiratory and Asthma. They will be clinically accountable for delivery of the clinical service and for the operational planning of a safe, effective service.
  • The post holder will be an advanced specialist in their field fulfilling a specialist clinical role within Paediatric Respiratory and Asthma.
  • As a Senior Clinician Researcher the post holder will provide effective research activities within Paediatric Respiratory Medicine. This includes project planning, involving application for ethics/governance approval, co-ordinating and undertaking research projects with supervision.
  • The post holder will contribute to the implementation of research into clinical practice and service development and will participate in the education and training of health professionals about the application of research evidence on clinical practice.
  • Education and training will be a key deliverable with the expectation that this is provided both locally and at a regional level.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy
  • State registration with the Health Professions Council
  • Clinical Educators course or equivalent
  • Relevant Postgraduate clinical qualification (Desirable)

Experience

  • Significant recent clinical experience in relevant clinical area
  • Evidence of a broad base of clinical experience at Band 6 level or equivalent
  • Experience of multidisciplinary goal planning, development of care pathways and using outcome measures
  • Experience of organising and implementing training programmes for therapists, MDT members, support workers, students and apprentices
  • Experience in implementing evidence based practice in speciality
  • Experience of service development/change management
  • Previous Band 7 or equivalent experience in relevant post (Desirable)
  • Leadership of a therapy team (Desirable)

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of assessment and treatment approaches for the effective management of relevant conditions
  • Advanced skills in the appropriate application of a range of techniques and approaches to the management of relevant conditions
  • Advanced knowledge of the evidence base of the relevant therapy area
  • Knowledge of the influence of psychosocial and cultural factors health/illness behaviours
  • Skills in supervision, mentoring and coaching
  • Ability to cope with working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients or carers
  • Understanding of clinical governance and the implications for therapy services including experience of quality issues and audit
  • Advanced computer skills for presentation and data analysis (Desirable)
