About the Role

We are looking for a Banking and Payments Team Leader to oversee the smooth running of our day-to-day banking and payment activities across the business. This is a key role within our Finance team at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], where you will lead a high-performing team responsible for direct debits, payment runs, refunds, and bank reconciliations. You'll also work closely with the Banking & Payments Team Manager to support system processes, compliance, and continuous improvement across multiple banking platforms.

Main Duties

  • Manage payment processes including direct debits, credit card receipts, refunds and online payments
  • Oversee weekly BACS payment runs, ensuring accuracy, authorisation and duplicate checks
  • Handle urgent and manual payment requests, ensuring timely processing
  • Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded within the general ledger
  • Reconcile bank accounts on a daily and monthly basis
  • Review, process and manage direct debit mandates and collections
  • Support and maintain key banking systems including Bankline, Worldpay, Bottomline, BACS and Equals
  • Assist with SUN profiles, HSMs and BACS submissions
  • Set up new home bank accounts and petty cash cards
  • Ensure adherence to banking standards, controls and best practice
  • Lead and supervise a high-performing Banking & Payments team
  • Organise workloads to meet deadlines and quality standards
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and development of team members
  • Coach and mentor colleagues to build capability
  • Identify performance issues and escalate where appropriate
  • Foster a positive, collaborative team environment
  • Assist with audit queries relating to banking processes
  • Act as a key contact for internal teams, homes and suppliers on payment queries
  • Build strong working relationships across the business

About You

Essential

  • Experience in banking and payments operations
  • Experience working within a finance team or relevant finance qualification
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to work to deadlines with high accuracy
  • Experience supporting or leading a team

Desirable

  • Experience with BACS, Bottomline, Bankline or similar
  • Experience in a multi-site or complex organisation
