Job Summary
We are looking for a friendly, organised, and confident individual to join our Reception team at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]. This is a key, patient-facing role at the heart of the practice, where you will make a real difference to how patients access care. This is not a traditional front-desk-only receptionist position. The role is predominantly telephone-based and focuses on care navigation, supporting patients to access the most appropriate service or clinician for their needs.
Main Duties
- First point of contact for patients via telephone, face-to-face, and email; use effective questioning and listening skills to support care navigation.
- Handle a high volume of telephone calls, manage patient demand by prioritising and signposting.
- Book, amend, and cancel appointments in line with practice protocols.
- Provide clear information about available services, self-care, and alternative pathways.
- Front desk duties: register patients, process new registrations, and assist with administrative tasks.
- Process prescription requests, maintain accurate patient records, handle correspondence.
- Work collaboratively with the clinical and management team; provide cover during absences.
- Open or secure the premises on rotation; ensure compliance with confidentiality and Health & Safety.

Person Specification – Essential Criteria
- Experience handling data (electronic/paper) and competent in IT systems and office software.
- Professional telephone manner, strong interpersonal skills, ability to handle high volume calls.
- Ability to gather information and make informed decisions for care navigation.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, team player, able to work independently.
- Flexible with working hours, willingness to cover shifts.
- Good general education including A*-C in English and Maths.
