Job summary
The Northern Cancer Centre Carlisle specialises in the care of people with oncological and haematological cancers. You will be enthusiastic and have a desire to develop your knowledge and skills, be able to deliver care to the highest standard and have excellent communication skills. You should be competent in coordinating your day to day workload, able to manage your time effectively, work well as a team member and have excellent communication skills. Main duties of the job
- Assisting with minor procedures and carrying out venepuncture, chaperoning
- Assisting the qualified nursing team as required
- Patient observation
- Ensuring cleanliness standards are maintained

- Continue to develop and maintain competencies in nursing tasks to maintain high quality safe care
Person Specification
Knowledge
- Essential: Ability to maintain and improve knowledge, skills and competence to ensure high standards of patient care; Ability to carry out routine elements of assessment to enhance the patient / client journey, following an initial assessment by a registered practitioner; Ability to meet basic care needs of patients; Understanding of confidentiality
- Desirable: Understanding of basic safeguarding
Skills
- Essential: Basic IT skills; Ability to be responsible for own development, identifying training needs, set personal objectives and attend appropriate training as agreed by line manager; Ability to initiate emergency action when required e.g. Cardiac arrest, Fire
- Desirable: Competent in physical skills - blood pressure, recording ECGs, blood glucose, phlebotomy etc
Experience
- Essential: Ability to plan, prioritise own and delegated work tasks and activities; Previous experience / consolidation of practice as a HCA (evidence of knowledge attained at level 3 using the Qualifications and Credit Framework)
- Desirable: Experience of Hospital PAS / eRecord systems - making appointments, registration etc; Previous experience within speciality
Qualifications
- Essential: NVQ Level 3 in appropriate subject (or on pathway) or equivalent qualification / experience; GCSE in Maths and English at Grades 3-1 (or D-G or Functional/Key Skills Level 1); Completion of a Trust or other HCA development programme
