Consultant Paediatric Haematologist
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Consultant Paediatric Haematologist at the Great North Children's Hospital. This permanent full-time post focuses on non-malignant haematology and leukaemia.
Salary: £109,725 - £145,478 per annum. Location: Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Job Summary
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team. The post is part of the service development to centralise and develop paediatric haematology, to consolidate expertise in the department and will focus primarily on non-malignant haematology and leukaemia. [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] provides specialist paediatric haematology across a large area encompassing the North East and North West of England with most of the care being delivered centrally. Newcastle is the regional sickle cell and haemoglobinopathy centre with a designated Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team; it is a high prevalence area for haemoglobinopathy for pregnancy screening. The candidate must be able to evidence relevant expertise and training. The post is open to those who hold FRCPath (or equivalent) and have relevant paediatric experience, as well as candidates who have trained as paediatricians and can demonstrate relevant training in haematology.
Main Duties
- Develop the regional paediatric haematology service after centralisation of services into one department based in [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].
- Clinical management of patients with non-malignant conditions including haemoglobinopathies and malignant haematological disorders.
- Support stem cell transplant and cellular therapies service.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC Registration.
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from AAC).
- Special skills and training in Paediatric Haematology.
- Minimum 12 months' experience in paediatric haematology.
Desirable
- Higher Degree.
- FRCPath or equivalent.
Clinical Experience
- Wide experience of clinical and laboratory haematology.
- Specific experience and interest in Paediatric Haematology.
- Paediatric Haematology training in recognised centre.
- Ability to take independent responsibility for clinical care of children with haematological illness.
